4. Why do you like working with kids? I like working with children, and watching them grow. My favorite thing about working with CARES is building relationships with students. They not only see me as a asp teacher, but as a mentor. Students look up to me, and that motivates me to become a better person for them.

Harvest of the Month

Harvest of the Month for November is Winter Squash! There is a variety of winter squash to enjoy this month like pumpkins, butternut squash, acorn, and hubbard. Pumpkins are not only for carving but can be made into some yummy recipes! Winter squash is full of vitamin A, fiber, and vitamin C. Down below you'll find a delicious recipe on how to turn a acorn squash into delicious sweet treat. 


Having fun with STEM

El Monte students were able to choose from four engineering and art stations in the MU. This included playdoh, K'Nex, drawing and a creation station where students could use their imagination to create something.

Friends of Camp Concord Golf tournament

This year CARES had the opportunity to host the 17th hole at the Friends of Camp Concord golf Tournament at Crow Canyon in Danville. Program Manager, Eric Rego host the 17th hole along with veteran staff Jeremy Macahilig, Karla Palomera, Laura Plascencia, and Nicole Prins. Eric and the staff had an awesome time sharing the students and their personal experience attending Camp Concord and how much joy it has brought to their lives.

Visions of Success Event

This past Saturday on November 11, 2017 the Epsilon Beta Boule Fraternity host their annual visions of success event at USF. 40 students from Ygnacio Valley High, Mt. Diablo High, Concord High, Riverview Middle, Oak Grove Middle, and El Dorado Middle attended the event where they participated in workshops. Students were able to participate in STEM workshops along with various workshops. The students also got to participate in multiple raffles that included computers. The event was very successful and the students enjoyed hearing from the members of the fraternity.

Lights On Event 2017

On October 26,2017 Fair Oaks Elementary hosted CARES Lights On event. Lights on is an annual event to bring awareness of After school programs nationwide. This year CARES showcased the amazing programs throughout Mt. Diablo with an awesome video and tri-folds. Fair Oaks CARES also hosted tours for visitors that were curious to see an average day at CARES looked like. A big thank you Fair Oaks CARES staff for hosting a wonderful event and allowing their program to shine on!!

Concord Police Department at Sun Terrace

Sun Terrace Elementary had a great service project for the month of October. They partnered up with Concord police Department to showcase what their daily day looks life. The Concord PD brought different divisions of the police department from their K-9 unit to their patrol unit. The students were super appreciative and made them thank you letters to show their gratitude. The leadership team made lifesavers with a note, "Thank you, to a lifesaver in blue.We appreciate your service!"

Fall Fest 2017

On October 28, 2017 the Bay Point held their Fall Festival and had a great turn out, over 190 attendees!! The Bay Point Garden had many crafts, games, and prizes. The garden also provided opportunities for the community families to get fresh produce, plant flowers, and taste test some yummy recipes with seasonal produce. A big thank you for the Bay Point garden staff and all the CARES staff that supported the event. 


Partnership with Royal King

CARES has recently partnered up with Rojelio Viramontes and his crew from Royal King to bring enrichment activities to the elementary and Middle school CARES programs. Royal King will be host three series of enrichment activities; Dance, Theatre and a fun interactive beat lab.In the beat lab students will learn to create their own music using I-pads, Theatre will allow the student to get silly with improv and in Dance students will be learning hip hop and ball room dancing. The students are loving all the activities! 


Basketball season is back!!

Elementary sports are back in season! October 18, 2017 was the first games and we're off to a great start. All students and staff were excited and very welcoming to the opposing team. Down below are pictures of the Wren Avenue and Sun Terrace.
