Spending time in the garden

In honor of National Nutrition Month students have been spending a lot of time in their schools gardens. Students have started to clear out the beds of the winter crops and starting to gear up for spring. The pictures below show students at one of elementary sites, Delta View and one of middle schools Oak Grove.

Rainbow Fractions

El Monte students are practicing fractions by playing Rainbow War. The goal is to learn which fractions are greater or less than one another while collecting rainbow strips and gold coins.

Fire Department at Holbrook Language Academy

On March 12th students at HOLA were surprised by a special visit from CCC Fire Protection District Fire-Rescue Public Education. Students were educated on the proper action to take in a sudden fire or life emergency. The Fire-Rescue team also shared ways students are able to help their community in staying safe and also future career paths.

ARF Community Service

Sun Terrace did an awesome service learning project to help the animals in need at ARF. ARF is a local non profit organization based in Walnut Creek, California. The students made small blankets and treats for the animals and donated them in a large basket for the animals to enjoy. Students learned the value of giving back to the less fortunate that includes our furry friends. Thank you for generosity Sun Terrace!

Tasty it Tuesday!

The CARES program has partnered up with Mt. Diablo central kitchen to help with new lunch menu items. This month students tast tested two different salsas; a salsa verde and a spicy red salsa. The students loved both salsa falvors and gave them two thumbs up as approval for their new lunch menu.
