Student-built ‘Tiny House’ at Concord High School goes up for auction

WHAT:  20’ “tiny house” built by students in the Building Trades and Engineering program at Concord High School is up for auction

WHEN:  Open House is scheduled for March 25 from noon – 4 p.m.

WHERE:  Concord High School, 4200 Concord Blvd. Concord, CA  (Directions)

BACKGROUND:  Students in the Construction Technology, Civil Engineering and Architecture program at Concord High School, taught by Tom Trowbridge, have literally built their own cottage industry, with the construction of a 20’ “tiny house” – part of a growing architectural and social movement that advocates living simply in small homes.  Students last year completed their first tiny house, and it is going up for auction, with funds to be reinvested into the next tiny house project.

An open house is scheduled for March 25, from noon to 4 p.m. at Concord High School. Opening bid is $20,000.  For more information, contact Mr. Trowbridge at trowbridget@mdusd.org.

Thanks to Tumbleweed Tiny House Company, which donated a full set of plans and documents; Ashby Lumber Company, which donated the bulk of the rough framing materials, loft flooring, and (lots of) nails and fasteners; and West Coast Windows and Doors, which not only provided the windows for the project, but also took care of ordering  all sizes, quantities, colors and styles.
