Health Science Pathway

The Health Science instructors provide students with the academic and technical skills and knowledge needed to pursue a full range of career opportunities in health science and medical technology, from entry level to management as well as technical and professional career specialties. MDUSD has both Biotechnology and Patient Care pathways within its schools. Students within these pathways earn basic certifications in first aid and CPR, as well as HIPPA and CERT certifications. The capstone courses include Sports Medicine, BioTech Lab, Medical Inventions, and Emergency Medicine. Industry partners include John Muir Health, Contra Costa County Health, East Bay CPR, Kaiser Permanente, Clinica De La Raza, Loftin Dental, Stat Med and Lifelong
Medical.

Ygnacio Valley Health Academy has a wide range of students who are interested in a career in the healthcare field. Our Academy students are all members of HOSA- Future Health Professionals and we travel and compete in HOSA events every year. They learn soft skills as well as technical skills along with becoming CPR and First Aid certified.

Horizons CIS Health Careers Program features weekly hands-on and work based training, leadership opportunities for every student, and earned community college units! Through our monthly “rotation on location” feature, students visit several health industry and college sites. Students become Health Advocates, succeed in Lab Sciences such as Physiology and Chemistry, and learn Medical Math, all in preparation for a future career in Health Sciences!

Our Patient Care Pathway, provides our students with multiple clinical skills,competencies and Industry certifications that are needed for an entry level job within Allied Health
